la reserve & brulee

La Reserve and Brulée is one of the best palm forests on Mahe, and often said to be as spectacular as the Vallee-de-Mai on Praslin island, in spite of the absence of Coco-de-Mer. The lower slopes on the southern side have been planted with mahogany. The upper slopes are covered with the remains of an intermediate palm forest, with a considerable element of exotic species like Kalis Dipap (Tabebuia Pallida) and Bwa Zonn (Alstonia Macrophylla).

The bio-diversity is surprisingly high in this rather restricted area. Graded as MEDIUM, this trail is a circular one, with several steep sections. Hikers should allow for 2 hours to reach the first viewing point, 1 hour to reach the second viewing point, and another hour to reach the summit, which is also crowned with a granite floor, surrounded by the hardy Vakwa-d-Montanny (Pandanus multispicatus), Kafé Maron Pti Fey (Erythroxylon sechellarum), Latannyen Fey (Phoenicophorium Borsigiannum) and some encrouching cinnamon trees; offering spectacular views of Mahe and the ocean.
